India’s Star-Studded Fashion Week Reaches a Crossroads

In pursuit of new audiences, greater autonomy and ever more dramatic backdrops, a growing number of Indian designers are turning to independent shows beyond the traditional fashion week circuit.

Over its 26-year history, Lakme Fashion Week has played host to virtually every major designer from India. The latest edition kicks off on Thursday with heavyweights like Manish Malhotra, Amit Aggarwal, Anamika Khanna and Rahul Mishra presenting their brands at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai, alongside a roster of emerging names.
