On a blistering July weekend, crowds lined up at a new fashion destination in Shanghai. Not to gawp at Louis Vuitton’s colossal cruise ship docked at Taikoo Hui but to jostle for entry at a vintage market in an industrial compound. The event, organised by social commerce app Xiaohongshu, drew the city’s in-crowd and pre-owned fashion enthusiasts alike. It’s one of many examples of the hype the resale sector now enjoys in China, says local sustainability expert Yidi Chen.
